IOGKF
Emblem Print E-mail

This emblem was introduced during the course in Poole (England 1979) and coincided with the foundation of the IOGKF. Its purpose is to represent the organisation on a world scale.

The square symbol of the interior is the coat of arms of the Sensei Chojun Miyagi family, the founder of Goju-Ryu. This square (or hard shape) contrasts with the rounded edge (or flexible shape) to interpret the name of Goju-Ryu as a hard and flexible style. In oriental thought, the sky (Ken) is considered as empty and circular and the earth (Kon) is considered as hard and angular. Therefore, this emblem combines the circular and angular configurations, which personify the immensity of the universe, as well as the hardness of the Earth, describing the harmony of the hard and flexible aspects of the universe.

Emblema

NB: The emblem is the property of I.O.G.K.F., which is the only organisation that can authorise the use and/or sale of the emblem, as I.O.G.K.F. Spain is the only national organisation authorised to distribute the emblem or authorise its use. Therefore, should you wish to purchase this emblem, you must be a member of I.O.G.K.F. Spain and ask your instructor for it.

The IOGKF was officially founded on 12 August 1979 to coincide with the first international course in Poole, England (from 12 to 24 August 1979).

During the opening ceremony, Sensei Morio Higaonna said:

- Since the death of our founder, Sensei Chojun Miyagi, Goju-Ryu has spread internationally and, thanks to many new ideas, the original principles are being lost.

It is my purpose to find all our advisers in Okinawa to recover the traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu as it was practised and taught by Sensei Chojun Miyagi.

The IOGKF is currently represented in more than 40 countries across the world and has more than 30,000 students.

The master Anichi Miyagi is the honorary president of the IOGKF.

He was the only student to live in Chojun Miyagi’s house (ushi-Deshi) and, thanks to his complete devotion to Goju-Ryu and his master, he was looked upon as a son by Sensei Chojun Miyagi.

From 1948 until his death in 1953, the master Chojun Miyagi taught and showed his protégé everything he knew, from the Okuden (Goju-Ryu techniques at the highest level) to the Hiden (secret techniques of the Goju-Ryu).

The master Anichi Miyagi actually has only one real student, Sensei Morio Higaonna, president and chief instructor of the IOGKF for the entire world.

The legal representation in Spain is called IOGKF-SPAIN and its chief instructor is Sensei Luis Nunes, who runs his dojo and the central offices in the Region of Murcia (Ichiban Dojo).

One of the association's principles is the practice of karate goju-ryu as a form of moral, intellectual and physical training as part of the educational system for the benefit of the younger generations. These three forms of training must blend together into one to foster the positive development of the human spirit.

In order to reap the benefits of karate-do, it is important to understand that karate begins with respect and ends with respect. Respect for our colleagues is of utmost importance. Through normal daily training, a student can learn to focus and apply the power of his mind and develop qualities such as courage, morality, decision, a sense of responsibility and an independent spirit. These are all the facets of the human character, which contribute to the health of society in general.

These are the principles the IOGKF-SPAIN seeks to spread to all its members through the practice of karate-do goju-ryu.

IOGKF-SPAIN represents the philosophy of the founder of Goju-Ryu “Bushi” Chojun Miyagi.

IOGKF-SPAIN is dedicated to conserving the art of goju-ryu karate-do in its original form as an intangible cultural treasure and to spreading it across Spain. As representatives of the IOGKF, we are proud to transmit this art in a traditional way and, therefore, make it accessible for future generations.

Our main interest is the contribution to the positive development of the human condition through the art of the Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do. Regardless of race, age or gender, everyone is welcome in IOGKF-SPAIN.

OUR OBJECTIVES ARE AS FOLLOWS:

    • Through karate-Do, to develop the physical and spiritual elements of the human condition.
    • To protect the tradition of the Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate-Do as an intangible cultural treasure through the promotion of the art through diligent training for technical development.
    • To work towards forming instructors laden with wisdom, fairness and good technical skills.
    • To introduce karate-Do as a form of education in the martial arts as part of the education system at schools, gymnasiums and other occupational centres to guide the younger generations on both a moral and physical scale.
    • To foster human relations and technical exchanges through courses, tournaments, retreats and any other sporting or cultural event
